Injury Prevention in Children

This week for my free post I am looking at a video published on Youtube. This video discusses the how vulnerable that young kids are at accruing sports injuries. It begins with an introduction for Doctor Brooder Stapleton. They next discuss the reasons that more children are accruing injuries which is because of a large group of children now playing sports, and the fact that children's bodies are still growing and developing. it then goes on to talk about the link between childhood obesity, which is a huge problem in this nation, and sports injuries. Next it begins to list ways to prevent injury in children. First is parent involvement, next is appropriate equipment/ playing surface and Check the coaches training. Then it continues to list of more ways to prevent injury, which include warming up, if there's pain don't have your child play, try to match your child to a sport, and be a role model and lead by example. next they discuss the RICE technique to treat injuries. The RICE technique stands for Rest for 48 hours, Ice for 20 minutes 4-8 time a day, Compress with an elastic bandage or ACE rap, and Elevate above the heart.
I thought that this video is very helpful in informing parents. It is full of lots of good information by an accredited source, that deals with these sort of injuries. I hope this can help anyone in search of some good information. here is the video link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4gqeYyYzyI.

  2. I loved this post. It definitely hit home for me, being that I had an injury that I did not properly treat. I wish that I would've watched a video like the one you posted. I know so many of my friends who had the exact same problem as well. The video you picked was informative and you explained it very well. Great job!

  3. i also think you did a great job on this post. Your video and explanation will help many future parents who have kids involved in sports. RICE is a very good technique to use, and you did a good job explaining what it was. Its a method that it easy to remember and has helped me recover from many of my injuries in the past.
