Final Blog Post
Blog, blog, blog, blog… It seems that this has been the central focus of my WRA 150 class for the entire semester. Now that it is finished I find myself in a strange place, the beginning of the end. This project has taught me much, not only about my field, Human Biology, but myself. This blog has helped prepare me to work in my field, and taught me beliefs, ethics, and rhetoric necessary for success in my field, and I will now demonstrate how it did these things.
Beliefs, ethics, and rhetoric, three strange accumulations of letter of which by in large contain the relative same definition. Why are these words important? They are important because they institute the fact of higher learning, and this is important because this is my path. This is all of our paths. We search for meaning understanding, and knowledge in this project. I have found it, have you?
The Belief of a Human Biology major is just that, life. They believe in maintaining and preserving as well as exploring and discovering wonderful new things with in the human body. They hold themselves to a high moral code set by Hippocrates, father of modern medicine, in the Law of Hippocrates. This states core values of preservation and growth of human life. Human Biology rhetoric is that of the highest level. It includes some of the most important documents in the world, such as the journal on penicillin and new and exciting documentation being done to combat cancer. All while being presented in a professional and prompt way.
During this project I have learned many things, but what does that mean, and why is it important. This means that I have opened my self to a new way of learning, which is one that is research, post, and repeat. In my prior life experiences I have never had to do so much research on one single topic. This process of research, post, and repeat was somewhat difficult for me because of the time and effort that was put into every post, then the process was to be repeated again. The process was quite overwhelming. This fact was my biggest struggle within the project, but I also found that finding and citing information was quite a challenge. This is because often times research is incorrect, or needs to be double checked. The fact that I was so unfamiliar with the citing process caused my problems with citing, this was a challenge but I enjoyed learning the technique of creating the citation.
Now that I have talked about the struggles and problems that the blog project presented me with, I would like to talk about how I feel that I did well in this project. I feel that I succeed in learning a plethora of new and exciting information about my field of Human Biology. I learned so many interesting things about what doctors learn, how they learn, and where they learn. I have also learned interesting effects of new medical products such as physio-tape. I also feel that I have become a better writer because of this project. It has opened my mind to new ways of writing and new writing styles.
In conclusion I have learned many new things. This project has opened my mind to new ideas, and concepts, It has not been easy as I have encountered challenges, but I have also been able to overcome them and excel in their midst’s. This project was a great learning experience, and look forward to doing it again.

Protein?

In this free post I am going to examine the best type of protein that one can take to maximize muscle growth. There are a lot of different supplements on the market today, that promise that the will get you "Jacked". But not all can be the best, can they? whale looking at website on the internet I found this great video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PWtJgE0jqI. It begins by stating that protein power is extremely helpful after a work out. The amino acids in the protein help muscles recover and shorten down time. next it explains that Whey Protein is the best for muscle grow/recovery. There are two different forms of Whey concentrate and isolate. the only difference in these two forms of Whey are that concentrate contains 80% protein and isolate is at least 90%. Next it explains how to dertermine the protein percentage. it then proceeds to explain that you want your protein to contain a minimal amount of carbohydrates. although you want some carbohydrates, a mix between slow and fast feeding .

Ask the Author

For this free post I have decided that I will open up the door for any questions that may have have crossed your mind. It can be anything to do with Human Biology, or Kinesiology. Don't be shy, I will respond to your massages in a later post, and hopefully I can help shed some light on your questions. I hope to hear from many of you soon.

The Interview

For this assignment I was asked to interview a professional in my field. for this I chose my kinesiology class. For the interview he asked if I could withhold his name, so I will refer to him as Mr. K (Kinesiology). For the dialogue I will be Lukas.
Lukas: What do you do on a daily basis?
Mr. K: On Tuesday and Thursday I spend my of my time in class, I have two classes in the gym. and on Monday and Wednesday I have two lecture classes.
I the asked him.
Lukas: How much time do you spend on classes?
Mr. K: I spend a majority of my time on my lecture class, but I do use some of the work day for my two classes in the gym.
Lukas:How did you start becoming a teacher?
Mr. K: well I am still perusing my masters, but I began to want to teach at an early age. I was an active person in high school, and obtained my undergraduate at Msu.
Lukas: How often do you interact with others?
Mr.K: I do sometimes interact with my peers, and I  attend lectures and conferences. But on a day to day basis not as much.
And lastly I asked
Lukas: What is your favorite part of teaching?
Mr. K:Well the Kids make it all worth it, but I love to be active as well.

Injury Prevention in Children

This week for my free post I am looking at a video published on Youtube. This video discusses the how vulnerable that young kids are at accruing sports injuries. It begins with an introduction for Doctor Brooder Stapleton. They next discuss the reasons that more children are accruing injuries which is because of a large group of children now playing sports, and the fact that children's bodies are still growing and developing. it then goes on to talk about the link between childhood obesity, which is a huge problem in this nation, and sports injuries. Next it begins to list ways to prevent injury in children. First is parent involvement, next is appropriate equipment/ playing surface and Check the coaches training. Then it continues to list of more ways to prevent injury, which include warming up, if there's pain don't have your child play, try to match your child to a sport, and be a role model and lead by example. next they discuss the RICE technique to treat injuries. The RICE technique stands for Rest for 48 hours, Ice for 20 minutes 4-8 time a day, Compress with an elastic bandage or ACE rap, and Elevate above the heart.
I thought that this video is very helpful in informing parents. It is full of lots of good information by an accredited source, that deals with these sort of injuries. I hope this can help anyone in search of some good information. here is the video link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4gqeYyYzyI.

Modes of Writing A Comparison

In this is post i will discuss the difference between two styles of writing particularly a blog and an educational document. First i analyzed a blog post in titled Testing Young Athletes for Heart Disease this discussed the way in witch you can help determine if a young athlete has heart disease and if this measure should be taken. The language in this piece is that of a common vernacular. it was very easy to read, and offered good insight to testing for heart disease. I then compared this to a paper published by the Annals of Internal Medicine. This was composed of a much different writing style, it contained long and perplexing sentences and words. It also dove much deeper into the aspects of testing young athletes. Overall i would suggest the Annals of Internal Medicine for anything other than light reading because it offered so much more than the blog.

The Importance of Stretching

This week in one of my kinesiology classes we discussed the importance and necessity of stretching before a work out, or before exercising. this was intriguing to me because like most of the other students in the class did not stretch before exercising. I'm a a relatively fit person, that has not suffered many injuries but I now know the benefits of stretching, and I will never, not stretch again.
The major benefits of stretching, of course in injury prevention; but how does stretching prevent injuries?
When a person begins to stretch they are beginning to lengthen their muscles. this increases blood flow to the muscles, and allows them to become more flexible. the benefit of a flexible muscle is the decreased chance of a tear or strain.
Another Advantage of stretching is the positive effects that it has on ones heart. When you stretch you begin to circulate blood at a faster but gradual rate. When one does not stretch and begin to exercise, the heart is put under an amount of strain that with stretching it would not be put under.
Stretching has another important benefit, it allows for a better work out. Because of the increased blood flow to the muscles and gradual increase in heart rate the body is going to be able to be pushed that much harder, and a greater work out will be achieved. My thought is if you are putting the time and effort into working out you mine as well maximise the potential benefit.
In review, stretching has many benefits including injury prevention, increased heart health, and potential for a maximized work out. For these reasons I am now a pro stretching man. It only adds about  ten minutes to your work out, but the benefits are so immense, that you would have to be a real muscle head not to stretch!

Questions

Searching for answers... this is often done while reading a textbook for a college course, but it is not often that you as the reader are formulating the question. For this assignment we, as a collective class, where presented with the task of creating and answering question form a college text books. This was quite the task, flipping thought the pages searching almost in the dark, trying to information, but this was the task and these are my results.
My book that I chose to use in the pursuit of answer to my questions was Medical Terminology Simplified  by Barbra A. Giles I asked Questions that pertained to success in the future. Those type of questions are as follows. How can I achieve success Where can my major take me?, How long does it take to become a athletic trainer?, Should I attend graduate schooling?, and what are their locations?. Other types of questions that asked were career based such as, What are the employment rates,What is an athletic trainers salary?, and What are the roles of an athletic trainer.
Unfortunately, I could not find any of my questions in my book because it is strictly a book on medical terms. The book is full of information, just not the information that is needed to complete my question.

Hello, my name is Lukas and I am a student at Michigan State University. I was born and raised in the small town of Saint Joseph, Michigan. there isn't a lot to do there, but in the summer everyone is on the beach. I have two younger brothers that I love so much, even thought they are very annoying and I was very sports orientated in high school. this is one of the reasons i believe that i am pursuing a career in the health field, particularly as a physical trainer.
I am a funny and nice guy that wont hesitate to help others when they need help. This quality along with the fact that I am a strong and dedicated worker allows me to really help people in their time of need.
I have set this blog up to help draw insight into my intended major Human Biology, and the medical field in general. I have chosen Human Biology, because it is a great precursor for medical school, or physical therapy school. I wish to attend medical school or PT school because like previously stated I love to help others. Hope you enjoy the blog, and find it useful.
